History of Royal Palms Hotel

Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, choosing the right hotel is no easy matter. To find that your hotel is not what you expected, however, is not good for anyone. With this in mind, the following tips and observations will hopefully help you decide if Royal Palms Hotel is the right choice for you. 

We are pleased and proud to have been recognized with the TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice Award for 2023 which reflects the great service levels we offer at the hotel. We have also been awarded TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards for the last 10 years.

The property is set in a mature sub-tropical garden and our accommodation ranges from suites in the garden, converted (rebuilt) stables in the “Mews”, suites in an adjoining estate house, and of course rooms in the main building. Many of our rooms are at ground level, some are a few steps up, and others are located on a second floor (European first floor).  We are the only hotel in Bermuda offering the unique experience of Mews accommodations.  Please take a look at our photo gallery to get a sense of how the property is laid out. 

Royal Palms Hotel is located on the outskirts of Hamilton, ideal for a traveler who is eager to explore Bermuda and all that our beautiful Island has to offer. If you are a sun-worshiper who prefers to relax on the beach and never set foot off property, then there are plenty of world class resorts and beach-front properties in Bermuda which may be better suited for these needs. 

If, like us, you see the 22 square miles of Bermuda as the resort and are interested in exploring all of what Bermuda has to offer, then Royal Palms is a great base as we are located near the ferry and bus terminal, cycle rentals, shopping, nightlife and the widest range of dining options. While taxis can take you anywhere, Bermuda’s ferry service is one of the most enjoyable ways to get around the Island. 

Our small dipping pool while not ideal for swimming laps, is the ideal place to relax or cool off after a warm summer day. 

The three Hamilton hotels are essentially equidistant from the center of Hamilton, albeit there are various walking routes. No Hamilton hotel is more than a few minutes nearer or further than any other, to anything in the city. Most people take 10-12 minutes to get to most of the popular places in Hamilton; ferry terminal, bus terminal and shopping district. 

There isn’t anywhere in Bermuda, outside of the city center where you won’t hear tree frogs chirping in the evening and that includes Royal Palms (visit our photo gallery for a close-up of a Bermuda tree frog). Bermuda doesn’t have many mosquitoes, but if you do leave your door open at night with your light on you will attract insects. However, all of the windows at Royal Palms do have screens to prevent these unwanted visitors. 

If you leave food out in any tropical or sub-tropical location ants will sniff it out; the same applies to eating in bed and dropping crumbs in the bedding. We provide bar style refrigerators in all of our Mini Suite & Deluxe Suite rooms, so this shouldn’t be a problem at Royal Palms. There is nothing poisonous, but we are a sub-tropical Island so if you invite the bugs in, they will come! 

All of the rooms at Royal Palms Hotel are individually decorated and furnished to a high standard, along with all common areas. The hotel has two restaurants on property; Ascots Restaurant & Bar and a more casual restaurant, Just 24. We strive to provide guest service to the highest standards at both of these on property establishments. While we do not offer full room service which is a requirement for a 4-star hotel, we do offer tray service from our standard menu. Our front desk closes at 11:00pm and so is not manned overnight, another requirement of a 4-star hotel. However, we do have staff living on property and available by phone whenever the front desk is closed. 

Finally, we do not have an elevator which is another requirement of a 4-star hotel as many of our rooms are located on ground level. The rooms located on the second floor are only a staircase away.
